Benjamin Scott - at a glance

Benjamin Scott is a writer and creative writing teacher. He is passionate about great writing - especially great writing for children. To find out more about him, visit "About Me".


As half of Max Chase, he has ghost-written five books in the new 7 to 9 year old fiction series, Star Fighters.


The opening chapters of his young-adult novel, The Summoning of Freiya Rolandson, earned an Honorary Mention in the SCBWI-BI Undiscovered Voices 2010 competition.  He has been a reviewer (from picture books to YA) for the specialist children’s book magazine, Carousel, since 2008.

He's also co-authored a job-hunting guide for graduates, Turn Your Degree into a Career (How To Books, 2003), and edited an anthology of short stories called Undercurrents (Gatehouse Press, 2008).


Benjamin has taught for the last seven years at the Writers' Summer School at Swanwick - facilitating a two-part workshop on Young Adult fiction in 2010, presenting a longer specialist course in Writing for Children in 2011 and teaching a four-part course on Writing Older Children's and YA Fiction in 2012. He is also the Writing For Young Adults online tutor for the Oxford University's Continuing Education Department.
